In 1991 the City of Westlake Mayor Dennis Clough and our founding sponsor, St. John Medical Center, agreed to host a five-mile charity run in Westlake, Ohio. Since 1991, North Coast Challenge raised over 1.4 million dollars for local charities such as Westlake D.A.R.E., Far West Center, Westlake Dept. of Senior & Community Services, SJMC Community Outreach and Wellness Ministry program, University Hospitals Woman's Health Center and more.
Over the years, North Coast Challenge has become an annual community event, comprised of events such as a 5-mile run, 3-mile walk and a kids fun run. Healthy refreshments are provided for participants and spectators. Music and children's activities make it a fun day for the entire family.
